SYDNEY SUCCESS FOR ROSE AND BOBIK

Porsche Staff Solutions International GT3 Cup Challenge Australia points leader Kane Rose has continued his series stronghold at Sydney Motorsport Park, sharing race victories with fellow front-runner Jeff Bobik on Sunday.

Rose opened Sunday with a lights-to-flag victory in Race 2 from Bobik and John Goodacre, however it was the fourth-placed Philip Woodbury who was the highlight of the race.

After qualifying second and failing to finish Saturday’s opening race, the New South Wales local drove through the field to contend among the front battle pack – six drivers trailing the leading Rose.

Woodbury progressed further up the order in the final lap, with contact between Fraser Ross and John Modystach allowing Woodbury to move into fourth by the finish.

Brent Odgers finished fifth from Jon Trende, Michael Almond, Ross, Modystach and John Morriss in 10th.

Bobik then jumped to the lead of the final race from Goodacre and Rose at the start.

The safety car was soon called when Almond spun and ended up in the tyre wall after contact with another competitor.

Rose past Goodacre soon after the restart and challenged Bobik for the lead of the final race, however Bobik held his position at the front and took victory in Race 3 from Rose, Woodbury, Trende, Goodacre and Odgers.

“It’s the first weekend this year that has gone by with no real incidents,” said Bobik.

“Finishing third, second and first in the three races is great; I couldn’t be more happier.

“It’s great having consistency again. It’s the first time I’ve have good consistency in about five rounds, and any time you beat Kane you know you’re doing well. I’ve now done that three times, and it always seems to happen in the last race.”

Meanwhile, Rose’s second in the final race was enough to secure the round victory and extend his series lead to Bobik and Modystach.

“It’s a fantastic result for us. We put a lot into this weekend and to come away with two wins and a second place is fantastic for us and for the championship,” said Rose.

“There’s a couple of rounds to go in the season but we’re definitely more comfortable with the car so hopefully we can go to another new track in Queensland Raceway and have a similar result.

“My main competition for the remaining rounds is definitely Jeff Bobik. Come the end of the weekend he always seems to be at your heels.”

Bobik finished behind Rose in second in the round points from Goodacre and Odgers.

The next round of the Porsche Staff Solutions International GT3 Cup Challenge Australia series will be held at Queensland Raceway on August 10-12 in conjunction with the Shannons Nationals Motor Racing Championships, which will feature the final race of the Jim Richards Endurance Trophy race.
