Kerrick Sports Sedan Series

Latest News

Apr 21, 2013

IN A REMARKABLE turn of events, the race named in honour of Mallala’s circuit owner has been won by his good friend.

Kerrick Sports Sedan series stalwart Jeff Barnes won today’s feature race – named after his good mate Clem Smith, the Mallala promoter and a long time fan and competitor in Sports Sedan racing – after a series of events ruled out the three major contenders for the series' biggest race of the year.

Barnes also won the round and dedicated his victory to another mate of his – Sports Sedan champion Des Wall – who passed away late last year. Barnes is running Wall’s racing number (#38) this season as a tribute to his mate.

KERRICK AUSTRALIAN SPORTS SEDAN SERIES leader Tony Ricciardello continued his unbeaten streak in season 2013 by qualifying on pole position for round two at Mallala Motorsport Park today with a best lap time of 1 minute 6.6722 seconds.

At the helm of the B & M Ricciardello Motors Alfa Romeo/Chev, the West Australian proved to be too fast on his new tyres in both sessions to head arch-rival Victorian Darren Hossack by seven tenths of a second. He was fastest in the first where his times were impeded by coolant and sand on the track, and cemented pole by going faster in the second.

The only down-side to the category is that many of these cars are bespoke design, and can often be off track for months at a time to be repaired, because invariably, every part is unique.

Over recent years the Kerrick Sports Sedan Series has had a resurgence, with a string of strong cars on the grid, including the John Gourlay built, Darren Hossack Driven Audi A4 and Kerry Baily's 2013 Championship winning car the Aston Martin.

Overview

CARS:

Full space frame bodies as bespoke Sports Sedans (Ricciardello Alfa, Baily Nissan, Hossack Audi, Randle SAAB) or Trans-Ams (Crompton Mustang, Wall Corvette), with bolt on composite panels and aerodynamic aids to assist in keeping the horsepower on the ground.

The leading Kerrick Sports Sedans are the fastest tin-tops in Australia, and in some cases, the fastest outright cars on a number of national circuits.
