National titles will be awarded at Melbourne’s Sandown International Raceway next month, in the ninth and final round of the 2009 Shannons Nationals.

Across the weekend of 28-29 November, six national categories will hit the circuit, concluding the fourth season of the Shannons Nationals and another season of motor racing in Australia’s sporting capital.

The Formula 3 Australian Drivers Championship will conclude with the marquee event of its season - the Formula 3 SuperPrix.

Australia’s fastest race cars will visit Sandown for the first time since 2004, as Melbourne’s Tim Macrow and Englishman Joey Foster battle for the championship.

In his first season down under, Foster looked in control of proceedings earlier in the year, but 2007 champion Macrow gradually reduced his buffer and took the championship lead in the most-recent round at Oran Park in August.

Macrow’s home circuit, Sandown will host the thrilling showdown, with the pair separated by just a handful of points.

Outright, manufacturers and class honours will be up for grabs in the Boylan Traffic Solutions Australian Manufacturers Championship, as production cars do battle across a pair of 1-Hour races with an option for co-drivers.

Class A2 standout Garry Holt (BMW 335i) leads the outright championship, with Class A1 combatants Lee Castle (Subaru WRX STi) and Rod Salmon (Mitsubishi Lancer Evo X) his closest challengers.

Mitsubishi leads the manufacturers standings over Toyota, whose efforts are spearheaded by Celica pair Stuart Jones and Colin Osborne, who are battling for Class C honours.

Matt Kingsley is the man to catch in the Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge and will head to Sandown with a 68-point advantage at the top of the table.

With only 90 points on offer across three races, Kingsley is in the box seat, however series co-founder and 2008 champ Sven Burchartz from Melbourne will be giving it his all.

After finishing second last year, Adam Wallis has a golden opportunity to go one better in the 2009 Shannons V8 Touring Car Series.

Wallis (VX Commodore) leads Terry Wyhoon (Falcon AU) by 46 points, with reigning series winner Chris Smerdon (Falcon AU) third, a further 46 in arrears.

It’s an all-Victorian fight in the Commodore Cup National Series, with Brett Holdsworth holding the upper hand over Tony Bates after winning two successive rounds.

Holdsworth needs only a pair of third-place finishes and a fourth to wrap up his maiden title, while Nick Parker and Ross McGregor remain mathematical possibilities should Holdsworth and Bates strike trouble.

By contrast to title fights in the other classes, South Australian Shawn Jamieson will head to Sandown safe in the knowledge that he has wrapped up the 2009 Kumho Tyres Australian Saloon Car Series.

Jamieson sealed the title at Morgan Park Raceway in August with two months to spare, and will be aiming for race wins and a lap record to round out a dominant season.

The six categories will be joined by a Porsche Club Regularity on 28-29 November at Sandown, with action all day Saturday and Sunday.

Tickets are just $15 on Saturday, $25 on Sunday or $35 for the weekend, with kids under 14 and grandstand seating free.
