According to V8Sleuth.com, one car (TMS 002) finished second at Bathurst in 2008 at the hands of Jason Richards and Greg Murphy, while the other (TMS 003) never raced in the ‘main game’ but had some success in the Development Series prior to being sold to its current owner.

The Sydney driver says he’s excited to be building his team for the 2016 season.

Simon Hodge won the 58th Australian Drivers Championship for the CAMS Gold Star in the same way he’s raced all season in Australian Formula 3.

He battled hard, got to the front, and then ran away.

The 20-year-old South Australian clinched the title in the second of three races contested at Sydney Motorsport Park this weekend after a breathtaking four-car battle for the lead that, at one stage, had him only third.

But he raced his way to the front past season-long rival Ben Gersekowski and grabbed a victory to seal the title.

Victory in the 14-lap feature race was merely an exclamation mark on an incredible season, one that netted 12 wins, 18 podiums and, of course, the longest-consecutively awarded prize in Aussie motorsport.

“It’s Amazing. I’m still pinching myself and I can’t believe it yet. Even though we came into the round with a lead, we were still nervous and it doesn’t necessarily mean terribly much,” he said.

SIMON HODGE has battled his way to victory in Round 6 of the Formula 3 Australian Drivers Championship at Phillip Island – but by no way was it an easy ride.

In two races he had to fend off closest championship rival Ben Gersekowski’s McDonald’s Gilmour Racing Dallara and on both occasion the intensity between the pair raised the bar on their already tight rivalry this season.

Hodge won the feature race after earlier running behind Gersekowski and pulled out to win a race that could be key in his championship hopes.

The Team BRM Mygale driver now leads the championship by 20 points heading into the next round at Sydney Motorsport Park.

“It’s fantastic always to get a race win and at this stage of the championship, they’re becoming more and more crucial,” Hodge said.

“To come away with a win not only in the first race but also the feature race this weekend, it’s been a massive boost for the championship and one we’ll look back on for Homebush. It’s only getting harder and harder against Ben, and it’s always great fun. It’s very, very close and at this place, the draft plays a massive part. It’s fantastic fun to mix it with him at the front of the field.”

Gersekowski finished second and again took a sprint race win from his nearest rival when he won race two on Sunday morning and remains very much in title contention ahead of the final two rounds.

THE THREE contenders for the 2014 Formula 3 Australian Drivers Championship will fight the remainder of the season on equal terms following Chris Anthony’s switch to a current-spec Mygale for the remainder of the season.

The 18-year-old from Cooma began the season in a Team BRM Dallara F307 and won the Bathurst round – however the slight performance disadvantage of the older-specification car compared to the later entries driven by rivals Simon Hodge and Ben Gersekowski was exposed in subsequent rounds.

But a late switch to an available Mygale M11-Mercedes chassis raced to a podium finish at Sandown earlier this season by John Magro puts Anthony back on equal footings with his nearest title rivals.

Team BRM sits first and third in the Gold Star standings after five rounds with McDonald’s Gilmour Racing driver Ben Gersekowski second.

Gersekowski trails Hodge by just 14 points with Anthony just 44 from the lead and well in contention with plenty of racing still to come.

The cars of the Kumho Tyres Australian V8 Touring Car Series have great stories. Here’s another one of them …

EVERY car that you see on the grid in the 2014 Kumho Series has a story to tell from its past in V8 Supercar racing.

In the case of this year’s points leader Ryan Simpson, his Triple Eight Race Engineering Falcon is one with plenty of interesting history.

Next in action at Phillip Island in just over a week, Simpson’s Falcon has very familiar colours on its flanks.

The same colours were on it back in 2008 when it was debuted as a TeamVodafone Falcon by Craig Lowndes at the Clipsal 500 in Adelaide.

While not able to finish the race, Aaron Seton again drew praise from across the track with an impressive drive aboard the #33 Pro Duct Mitsubishi Evo X. Seton started off the 66 laps with a nail-biting side-by-side battle through the opening corners with Holt, before going on to lead the majority of the race before a mechanical flag for a loose exhaust saw him brought into the lane, and out of the race, with just nine laps to go.

SIMON HODGE stopped a run of home-town victories from home-town hero Ben Gersekowski and won round five of the Formula 3 Australian Drivers Championship, in one of the upsets of the season at Queensland Raceway.

McDonald’s Gilmour Racing’s Ben Gersekowski had earlier tenaciously won both sprint races at the Ipswich circuit but the big-points feature went the way of the Team BRM Mygale when he won the start and led into turn one.

He pulled away to win from there to re-establish a 13-point lead at the top of the Gold Star standings with three rounds to go.

After enduring ‘less than spectacular’ starts for a majority of the season to date, it was the race three launch that ultimately got Hodge the round victory at Queensland Raceway.

The annual Shannons Nationals ‘Fight in the Night’ for the Australian Manufacturers Championship has lived up to its billing, with a wild night at Queensland Raceway.

Garry Holt and Stuart Kostera edged out impressive rookie Aaron Seton after a late-race battle between the pair of Mitsubishi Lancer Evolutions on a cool and crisp evening at the 3.1km circuit near Ipswich, taking both the outright and Class A win.

The race was an often confusing affair with several lengthy Safety Car periods and even a brief race suspension to re-order a jumbled field all featuring throughout – however there was nothing to stop the Eastern Creek Karts crew from grabbing a second ‘Fight in the Night’ win.

Once the field was sorted the leading pair battled for several laps before Kostera pulled away in the #20 Eastern Creek Karts Evo to grab the win from the young Seton and the #33 Pro Duct Evo.

IN A BATTLE OF EQUALS, McDonald’s Gilmour Racing driver Ben Gersekowski was slightly more equal than rival Simon Hodge today as he swept to victory in race one, round five of the Formula 3 Australian Drivers Championship at Queensland Raceway.

Gersekowski made the better start from second on the grid and led Hodge into turn one and it was that way they crossed the line 14 laps later, Gersekowski 0.5s in front of Hodge after a tense battle that simmered rather than boiled over.

There was literally nothing between the pair all race with the start the key factor in deciding who got home first.

Hodge had earlier scored pole while Gersekowski scored the bonus point for the race’s fastest lap, meaning the pair are now split by just 12 points in the Gold Star standings ahead of tomorrow’s pair of races, Hodge in front.

Following a tough round in Darwin – that Hodge dominated – Gersekowski said he was pleased to bounce back to the top of the results list on Saturday in Queensland.

Tony Ricciardello has taken the race one win at Queensland Raceways this afternoon in the #5 B&M Ricciardello Motors Alfa Romeo GTV, ahead of defending round winner Darren Hossack and returning six-time champ Kerry Baily.

In the process, the top qualifying West Australian reset Hossack’s race lap record to 1m 08.3138 seconds after earlier resetting the qualifying lap record with a 1m 07.7769s effort.

“It was a pretty good race, we were on pole but it was a bit of a dirty line, so it probably took a good couple of laps to get the dirt and the rubber off the tyres,” said Ricciardello.

“Once that happened the car was pretty consistent across the race which is what we were looking for, and the drop in the tyres wasn’t too bad. It was just good to have a clean race and to have Kerry giving Darren a bit of a hurry up as well!

Once he surged ahead, the 23-year-old from New South Wales took the chequered flag by a comfortable 13 seconds from Ross and John Goodacre.

While Ross was left to settle to second, the points were enough to wrap up the Jim Richards Endurance Trophy, a competition held over three rounds at Winton, Mallala and Queensland Raceway.
