A battle of all aspects..
13 August, 2011

Round 4 of the Australian Swift Racing Series has begun under the sunny yet cool conditions at Morgan Park Raceway in Queensland, on what is effectively home turf for Australia’s newest one make category, as they push on strong with support continuing to flow.

Being first on track on Saturday morning, it was always going to be a tough task to gain optimum tyre temperatures and set fast times as the barometer dipped below 5 degrees on arrival at the circuit. Despite the cool surroundings, Toasted Motorsport entrant Allan Jarvis was on the pace from the beginning, establishing grounding for himself and for others to chase as they had 20 minutes to find their lines around the spectacular layout. Just .03 of a second separated the front two cars of Jarvis and Morgan Haber with former V8 Ute racer Steve ‘Robbo’ Robinson finding himself in 3rd. All of the times remained close which ensured some exciting action with just 20 minutes for qualifying later in the morning.

With the sun shining, it was Mackay teenager Morgan Haber who was to shine in the 20 minute qualifying session for race 1. After being on the pace right from the beginning, it was a continual battle between he and Allan Jarvis, along with Steve Robinson and Brooke Leech to gain the prime track position and to find a toe down the straights to claim the quickest time. By the end of the session, it was revealed that the 17 year old had claimed pole position by 4 tenths of a second in his first time on 1st for the Australian Swift Series. For Jarvis and Robinson, it was 2nd and 3rd respectively, with Brooke Leech in 4th and ‘Captain’ Rob Jarvis along with Peter McLeod rounding out the field.

Haber said following qualifying, “it’s an excellent feeling to finally be on pole position and has prepared me really well for race 1 and has installed me with plenty of confidence for the rest of the weekend.”

Under true sunset conditions, it was a 12 lap battle that was assured to be exciting right from the start. In his first drive in the Australian Swift Series, Steve Robinson managed to spear off at the technical turn 2, seeing him drop to the back of the field and allowing pole position recipient Morgan Haber and Allan Jarvis battle through at the front of the field, a continuous tussle across the entire race eventually saw Jarvis claim the win from Haber, with Brooke Leech hanging on for 3rd from a fast chasing Rob Jarvis as Robinson threw everything at Peter McLeod to round out the field.
